Practicing What We Preach

Daily we council customers on the economic life of their equipment, pointing out how equipment becomes more costly to maintain, less reliable and prone to breakdown as the unit ages beyond its useful life. We’re often puzzled or left at a loss to explain at times why so many seem to ignore the obvious and muddle on with a unit that sees as much time up on blocks being repaired as it does out on the floor doing its job.

In reality however, it really wouldn’t take a lot of mental effort for us to put ourselves in their shoes. A sober look around our own workplace and there are similar decisions being made by us with the same disregard for the obvious.

Case in point would be the venerable Freightliner tractor we have. The beast has served us for the better of fifteen years, traveling over 633,000 miles during its service. With most of those miles being served here in the metropolitan Minneapolis and St. Paul area you’d have to use some sort of “dog year” formula to try to understand just how hard those miles were on the old girl. This past week however it was finally retired, stepping aside for the new Kenworth.

We here at TLM need to take a moment to understand that this is the eighth vehicle replaced in 2011. Thank you for the work done by sales, service, rental and parts for making these capital purchases possible.
